چکیده مقاله:

Abstract: There have been lots of studies to control the poor hydration resistance of dolomite refractories one of themost effective solutions has been the addition of magnesia to doloma. Using a co-clinker of magnesia-doloma as astarting material would provide more homogeneity in the properties of the product and has been published recently. On the other hand, addition of iron oxide to doloma has been found to increase the hydration resistance. In this paper, the effect of iron oxide addition on hydration phase analysis and microstructure of two different magnesia- dolomasamples, one with CaO content of 25 wt% and the other one with that of 35 wt% has been investigated. Ten sampleswere prepared by pressing followed by firing at 1750 ºC for 3hrs. Results showed that the hydration resistance of thesamples improved by decreasing the CaO content, because CaO is much more prone to hydration comparing to MgO.Besides, iron oxide addition lead to the formation of iron-containing phases which increased the hydration resistanceof the samples both by capsulating the CaO and MgO grains and by promoting the liquid phase sintering.

INFLUENCE OF MAGNESIA ADDITION ON HYDRATION OF IRANIAN DOLOMITE

ABSTRACT Dolomite refractories have a good production potential in Iran due to the existence of high-quality dolomite ore in many regions of the country, particularly in Isfahan and Hamedan. The basic problem associated with the production and use of this type of refractories is inherent tendency to hydration of calcined dolomite. One of the methods to overcome this problem is to increase the...

The Effect of Carbon Nanoparticles and Calcined Alumina on Mechanical Properties and Corrosion Resistance Behavior of the Magnesia Carbon Refractories

Nowadays, magnesia carbon refractories are very important for the iron and steel industries. It is due to their unique properties, such as low wet ability with melt iron and steel. Therefore, it is important to extend the life of the refractory. In this research, the effect of calcined alumina and nano carbon on mechanical strength and corrosion resistance against slag in magnesia carbon refrac...

Hydration of magnesia cubes: a helium ion microscopy study

Physisorbed water originating from exposure to the ambient can have a strong impact on the structure and chemistry of oxide nanomaterials. The effect can be particularly pronounced when these oxides are in physical contact with a solid substrate such as the ones used for immobilization to perform electron or ion microscopy imaging. We used helium ion microscopy (HIM) and investigated morphologi...
